National Palliative Care Week

May 7, 2024

It’s National Palliative Care Week starting 19thof May and the week is all about raising awareness in communities about what Palliative Care is and how to find more information on it.

Did you know that Palliative care is the care and support provided to people who have a progressive, life-limiting illness, and not just for those who are actively dying.

Palliative Care aims to improve the quality of life for patients, their families, and carers by addressing their many needs; physical, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs.

Care offered may include: medical treatment, relief from distressing symptoms, psychological and spiritual support, access to resources such as equipment and support to help the family cope during the person’s illness and in their own bereavement.

Palliative care is for people of any age with a life-limiting illness. It can be provided at any time depending on a person’s needs. It is now accepted that combining palliative care with active treatment improves symptom control, quality of life, and family satisfaction.   Palliative care may be provided in hospitals or community settings (private homes, residential aged care, general practices community palliative care clinics and day centres).

The people at Tree of Life Funerals don’t just care for people after they have died, we encourage and support everyone to educate themselves about what a good end of life can look like, living the best life possible, right up to the end.

We encourage people to have the important conversations with the people they care about, making these conversations a normal part of life and coming to the acceptance that one day, we will all die, so why not do it well?

We plan for so much in our lives and celebrate births, marriages, birthdays, holidays, so many things, and isn’t it true that if we plan, these events can turn out just how we want them to be? So why not plan what your end of life and death might look like? It can only turn out better! Don’t let fear stop you.

Tree of Life Funerals can provide the right advice to assist you in accessing end of life services as well as pre-planning a funeral. We can provide all the advice and assistance for a completely personalised funeral with your personal choices honoured.

Pre-planning your end-of-life is a gift for the people you care about.
